Course description: Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office is a class designed to teach your dental team how to prepare for, prevent, recognize and treat a medical emergency. It's important for a dental office to be prepared for a medical emergency because dental procedures, while usually safe, can still trigger unexpected reactions or complications that may become life-threatening.
Scenarios will be presented for discussion. We will also review the use of nitrous oxide including the absolute and relative contraindications
Class Objective:
Know the 7 essential drugs and their uses.
Learn the basic equipment to keep in the office to be prepared for a medical emergency.
Understand how to avoid a medical emergency by identifying at risk patients.
Recognize when someone is having a medical emergency and know what the next steps are.
Review the potential adverse reactions and the contraindications of nitrous oxide.
Melissa has 10 experience in EMS as a paramedic, firefighter and CPR instructor, 20 years experience in dentistry as a Dental Hygienist and seven years experience in Dental Continuing Education.
