INTRODUCTION
In 1941, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, tasked Meyer Saklad, Emery Rovenstein and Ivan Taylor with devising a method to collect and tabulate outcomes from anesthesia.
The 6 classifications ranging from healthy to extreme systemic disaster, are used to assess and determine a patients pre-anesthetic medical co-morbidities.
DESCRIPTION
This is an evidence-based interactive course specifically for the Dental healthcare professional. This course will cover the American Society of Anesthesiologist Physical Status and Classification’s guidelines to assess a patient’s pre-anesthetic co-morbidities to mitigate and minimize potential complications from anesthesia. We also cover co-morbidities and medications that alter type and dose of Local Anesthetics as well as absolute and relative contraindications. We will illustrate varying factors to consider who is indicated for Local Anesthetics and who is recommended for a medical clearance.

Course Description: This class will cover the most common medical emergencies seen in the dental office. Learn about preventing, recognizing and treating these emergencies. Scenarios will be presented for discussion. We will also review the use of nitrous oxide along with the absolute and relative contraindications.
Course Objectives:
-Know the 7 essential drugs and their uses.
-Be familiar with the basic equipment to keep in the office
-Recognize when someone is having a medical emergency.
-What you can do to treat a medical emergency in the dental office.
-Review the potential adverse reactions and the contraindications of nitrous oxide.
